Moving On

There were pillars that kept me steady,

until time wore the edges thin,

letting change eat through the metal

and turn old strength to rust.

I poured all my remaining energy into keeping the connections whole,
hoping the devotion of a kind heart could reach them—
yet holding on was like catching a shadow's mist.

So I stopped chasing the shadow's mist,
And pulled my energy back to my own mind and fist
I stopped burning my warmth for those who used to stay
And gave my heart to the ones who don't walk away.

Have you ever had to pull your energy back to protect your peace? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

When You Are at Zen

You once felt small
Bound within invisible walls
With nowhere to hide
Yet still you held strength inside

As your thoughts embrace sincerity
Your mind rests in clarity

You grasp the beauty of life’s variety

Exploring each moment to its entirety

Ever moving toward serenity

You guide your thoughts with ease

Your mind at peace

No doubt remains

Confidence lights your way

Empowers each choice you hold.

With mind at Zen
Each moment blooms with meaning

You embrace each change And master the thoughts within

The Mind is the Enemy

Words can say so much

Yet never reveal it all

We hide our pain in silence

Vulnerable within our own minds.

Thoughts drift

Echoes fill the room

Focus starts to shift

While yearning for light to bloom

As hope emerges

You find the courage

To turn each broken page

And watch new strength rise and surge.

Breaking through a mental wall

With light clearing the way

You find yourself in tranquility

As serenity begins to stay

And quietly you rise tall.

After Night Thoughts

A part of me seeks reassurance and validation

Since words can heavily shift your mood

Which can put you at ease temporarily

Yet you have to find your own peace

Thinning myself short

Prioritizing others than myself

Realizing that it has become unhealthy

Continuously showed care to everyone

Eventually taking a toll on my mentality

Constantly thinking about a way out

Whether it's taking the initiative to step away from media

Or distracting myself with social interactions or going out

To heal the void in my mind.

You are in control of your actions

Therefore live for yourself

Rely on your strengths

 To achieve your goals

Balancing Life

Life is like a pendulum scale

Trying to find an equilibrium of balance

From making crucial life decisions to pleasure

With one tale higher than the other.

We overwork ourselves

For fulfilment it gives

Leaving us in a pleasant mood

Yet it can be tiresome.

Time is ever-flowing

Each decision you make counts

It can be overwhelming

When you want to do everything

Even so there is only one of you.

An equilibrium scale does not exist

For one side would outweigh the other

You must make sacrifices

From making a living or having fun.

Life

Life can be stagnant at times

Going through the same groove

Thinking each day can be different

Yet the results stayed the same.

Leaving you burnt out

Longing for something new to sprout

Where your self-doubt kicks in

Despite that you remain resilient throughout this process.

We can make changes in our routine

To make each day worth it

After all we are not a machine

For we have control over our behavior and sentiment.

Difficulty of breaking old habits

Due to the comfort of our old routines

Therefore forming new ways can be frightening

Even so it can be rewarding

When you can push for change.

Mental Health

Mental health represents a hard topic to comprehend & dissect because of the difficulty to understand what goes on inside a person's mind and thoughts. Individuals who struggle with their mental health tend to feel isolated or lonely because no one truly understands the constant thoughts and emotions going through their mind. People would shrug like it’s no big deal or give advice that can only help for a short period of time because mental health isn’t something that can be cured right away. Additionally, mental health would take days, months, or years to comprehend what an individual is tolerating and the ability to have great listening skills to apprehend the message conveyed to you. It’s important that people take mental health seriously because people endure internal battles that can lead to lack of motivation, little to no social interaction with others, isolation, anxiety, and physical harm to themselves. It can also lead to exhaustion of emotions and feeling drained when certain events aren’t going their way.

Mental health affects motivation

Mental health can influence a person’s motivation to do what they enjoy because their mentality is constantly battling between positive and negative thoughts for the negative thoughts would overpower the positive thoughts. Mental health can also influence a person’s motivation to accomplish their goals because they are doubting themselves whether it's a good or bad idea. For example, an individual mentality took a toll on how they perceive certain things because they kept overthinking that it wouldn’t go their way therefore losing motivation on what they want to achieve. Many people in this world want to do something for themselves and show the world that they can do it, but falters when they start to think people would harshly criticize them or won’t show any support on what they want to accomplish. This can lead to a spiral of mixed emotions and possibly lead to lack of motivation and confidence. It’s quite unfortunate when you want to try something so bad but your mentality tells you otherwise because of the many concerns you have or the built up anxiety. A saying which is “fake it till you make it” and there are many individuals who are going through their own internal battles that would fake each day without people realizing it. Faking it every day can get tiring because at some point “faking it till you make it” won’t be effective and drains a lot of energy.

                                               Mental health affects social interactions

An individual going through a rough patch regarding their mental health, they don’t want to interact or be bothered by other people because they prefer being alone. Genuine people who truly want to help that individual out would feel helpless and concerned because they want to remind that individual that they aren’t alone in this world and don’t have to go through this difficulty alone. They can try as much as they can but in the end that individual appreciates the effort and kindness shown to them yet they don’t want to add their internal battles weighing on their shoulders and prefer to deal with this on their own. An individual going through a rough patch doesn’t want to interact or seek help from others because that person wouldn’t understand the emotions and thoughts that are racing through their mind each second that ticks by. It’s important to understand when people that are going through their troubles with their mental health are to be supportive and respectful to their wishes and boundaries because deep down they really appreciate the effort you’re giving them and showing you care about them. It’s also important to note that the interaction you have with someone that is going through their difficulties may be short because they are still not at ease which would take a lot of time and patience for them to start feeling good enough to interact again.

Mental health enhances physical harm

Mental health can enhance physical harm because an individual is constantly battling between their good and bad thoughts which can lead to them inflicting self-harm on themselves. When an individual starts to inflict self-harm, it signals that the pain is getting unbearable to deal with any longer. Therefore, other people should take note of this and prevent this individual from inflicting self-harm on themselves and understand that mental health should be taken seriously. It’s critical for people to recognize that people inflict self-harm on themselves because it's a coping mechanism or an easy way out to prevent the pain. An individual’s mentality is clouded by pitch darkness and feel like they are alone in this world which can lead to the unspeakable. It’s very difficult to try and help the individual sway away from that dreadful thought and action because an individual is in a high emotional state and finding the precise words to say to them to prevent them from committing the worst possible outcome.

Conclusion

In conclusion, mental health should be taken very seriously because there are many people in this world that go through their own battles that would inflict self-harm or no will to live. Mental health represents a major topic that a lot of people in this world need to be informed about because it's important to understand the people you care about are going through on a daily basis. It’s also important that you let the people going through their internal battles know that they aren’t alone in this world when they are so loved and important. Additionally, remind the people you care about that they are worth it because individuals lose sight of their worth and the affirmation you give them helps a lot. There are many resources in this world that can help people when their mentality isn’t good and should be recommended to help them get through their internal battles. There are a lot of people in this world rooting and cheering you on, right by your side, and ensuring you everything will be alright. It’s important to understand certain words or actions can trigger them so please be aware before you type or speak because those spoken words can leave a scar. Also if a person you know or don’t know shares their mental health stories on social media, please be respectful because it takes an enormous amount of confidence and guts to share what they are going through.

To my friends & family

You’re worth it

You’re loved

You’re never alone

You’re appreciated

Never give up

But most importantly be proud of how far you’ve come and use that as motivation when others keep knocking you down and picking yourself right up and crushing each obstacle that goes your way.

Kindness

Kindness represents a quality trait to have because being kind to someone will come far in the long run. It’s genuinely an incredible feeling to witness the impact you can make just by being kind to others and showing that being kind still exists. I strongly believe that the kindness you radiate will come back to you in ways you never would have imagined which would precede others to follow your lead and do the same. An individual can show kindness by doing a nice gesture, offering a helping hand, or compliment someone you know or don’t know. The negative part of showing kindness to others is that your kindness will be taken advantage of because an individual doesn't think much of it until it happens to them. It can hurt a lot when the kindness you carry out to others isn’t appreciated because you would go the distance to make sure the people you care about are doing okay. Therefore, an individual should show kindness to everyone no matter what even if it hurts them because someone out there would appreciate the kindness you give them. When you show kindness to someone that has experienced a difficult time for so long can impact their lives a lot because you are the light that they needed the most.

Toxicity & Hatred in Social Media

This world has a lot of toxicity and hatred that runs all around the world with little to no kindness left because social media can influence people’s definition of “being kind.”In social media, if an individual does something nice for someone, it seems like that individual is trying to get with them, but in reality that individual is doing a nice gesture without expecting anything in return. Additionally, it makes other people to not do a kind gesture due to how toxic social media can portray kindness to something that it's not. Individuals should be able to show kindness to other people without the fear of being canceled, embarrassed, or ashamed of being kind to others or helping someone that's in need.

In conclusion, showing kindness will come far in life because the kindness you radiate off would come back to you tenfold. Kindness is truly a unique trait to have but it definitely doesn’t take long to be kind. The feeling you get when you are showing kindness to others is a feeling like no other and it makes everything you do worth it. The world is filled with toxicity, hatred, and many people going through difficult times that we don’t know so please stay kind to others and check in on people you care about. It’s important you show the same kindness you give to others to yourself because no one in this world knows you better than yourself.

Two words/motto that a friend would always say is “Be Kind”

Self-Love & Care

Self-love and Self-care in my opinion is one of the most difficult things to prioritize because we are creatures of habits of helping our friends first before ourselves. As much as you want to be there for others, it is important to prioritize your health and learn to give the same energy you give to others to yourself. The friends you meet that truly care will be very understanding if you take time to focus on yourself and thrive to be the best version of yourself.  It’s also difficult to prioritize yourself considering we are constantly working without taking any breaks which can lead to a potential burnout. Once we feel burnt out we have no motivation or energy to do anything. It's okay to feel burnt out because it happens to all of us. However, take a short break to do stuff you enjoy and are passionate about.

I struggled with self love and self care the most because my natural caring instincts of  wanting to be there for others before myself. I wanted to show my friends and family can rely on me for support and help. It definitely took a toll on my mindset because I couldn't sleep well and started to have bad eating habits but it was worth it. Eventually I started to learn to care/love myself more because if I don’t take care of myself how will I take care of others. I learned to balance my caring personality and my health which made me a lot happier. It allowed me to do stuff I held off for a long time.

In conclusion, no matter how much time and effort you put into your work, be sure to take breaks and spend time with your family, friends, and do stuff you enjoy without any distractions. Once you learn to love yourself and take care of yourself you will be in a healthy mindset and happier. It’s a long adventure of learning to self-love and self-care but it will show how much you have matured and grown. Be patient with yourself and others.

Safe place

A safe place is where you can be yourself without any judgment, being stress-free from everything that is going on in your life, and a spot you can go when you’re having a rough day. Your safe place can be anything you want it to be as long as you are comfortable and happy. For instance, your safe place can be hanging out with friends or playing games with them for a certain amount of hours, going to the gym, and lastly your room where no one can bother you. Music is one of the best safe places for many individuals because of how therapeutic it can be. You can develop many friendships through music because of the same interest/taste of bands/genres. You can also meet many amazing singers/artists by listening to their music that you can share with your friends or family.

My safe place is hanging out with friends either online or in person because the quality time we get to spent together means a lot to me and makes me happy. Ever since I started bowling with my cousins it sparked my interest that led me to bowl more consistently. Bowling allowed me to stay active, spend quality time with my friends and family, and destress.

Writing has definitely been one of my safe places during my free time because I’m able to express my thoughts in a form of poetry or creative writing. It makes me happy to be able to share what I wrote with the world and having the readers relate to my piece of writing. I wouldn’t have done it without the constant push of my friends that believed in me because I used to only show my writings to selective people. One of my friends told me to share my writings since it was so good to not be shown. Eventually, I gained the courage to post it on social media and I received so much feedback about how I should post more. My goal is to make everyone that believed in my writing proud by continuing to write and share it with the world.

In conclusion, when you find a safe place where it feels like home cherish that place because it will lead you to meet amazing people that make you constantly laugh and smile. A place where you can joke around with each other without getting upset or angry is worth being in and making your life so much enjoyable. A place you can be comfortable being yourself and good vibes all around.

“There is always one safe place for everyone and when you find it cherish that place no matter what”

Willpower

Willpower in my definition is never giving up on your goals and dreams and sticking it to the end. The amount of effort and dedication you put into anything will show and the hard work will pay off. A good mindset and mentality play a huge role in willpower because having a good mentality helps you stay focused on what you want to accomplish in your life. A good mindset also helps you be open to any obstacle that goes your way. It’s easy for your mindset to shatter if you let the negative thoughts get to you. Therefore leading you to give up or think you aren’t able to complete your current goal. One tip to avoid your mindset going negative is to take one task at a time so you don’t feel burnt out doing everything at once. For example, if an individual does everything at once they feel overwhelmed with the amount of work which can lead to unwanted stress and anxiety. Despite this individual putting so much work on their shoulders, it’s doable because the work can be completed through perseverance and patience.

Patience represents a crucial role in willpower because an individual must be patient. After all, success doesn’t come flying through the door. Success takes time to reach your final destination because many obstacles along the way will be a roadblock. An individual that has patience has strong willpower because they are capable of waiting to become successful compared to an individual that lacks patience and demands everything to come right away and not put any work in. For example, an individual works out consistently at a gym or home but doesn’t see any progress so this individual gets impatient. This individual asked himself/herself “why do I not see any progress when I have worked out every single day.” This indicates that this individual doesn’t know that it takes time for progress to be shown. A lesson absorbed from this is working out is a grinding process and not something that is done quickly so this individual must work hard and be patient.

An individual that worked a job for so many years that made them feel burnt out or unappreciated and thought about quitting but didn’t have strong willpower because they were able to persevere through the rough patches and be extremely patient. It’s definitely hard to keep working at a job that makes you feel angry, unappreciated, and burnt out, but we kept going because of the goals that we want to achieve. It’s these goals that keep you going and motivated to preserve through the suffering since at the end of the road your hard work will truly pay off tenfold.

To sum up the points stated above it doesn’t matter if you have weak or strong willpower because at the end of the day you tried your best to accomplish what you want to do despite all the setbacks you encountered. It’s the friends you meet that make the journey worth it because they motivate you, reassure you, and push you to your limits. Although your willpower to preserve through it all made it all possible. It’s important to have a good mindset and patience because you are open to change, making mistakes, and learning that everything in this world takes time.

“Never let other people’s success affect your success because your time will come too so don’t let their success get to your head.”

Good character

Good Character & Implications of a Good Character

                        Written by Peter Nguyen

My thought of a good character is knowing from right to wrong and owning up to your mistakes without backing out or involving others that will make the situation worse. It’s important to get feedback for any situation you don’t understand well. When you make the final decision on any situation, be sure to make the decision with a clear mind and be considerate of the other person’s feelings. A good character learns from their mistakes and tries to be a better version of themselves. A good character must go through their own set of struggles and pain because we learn from them and our experiences will guide others and validate how they feel.

A good character in my definition is by having proper etiquette and common sense when out in public. A good character is also defined by being kind to others even though they aren’t kind to you, supportive to your friends and family, and lastly being patient. Patience is extremely important for a good character because good things will come and worth the wait. A good character that is capable of controlling their emotions in a heated environment shows maturity because it’s quite difficult to suppress your emotions in an environment that makes you want to burst into anger. For example, an individual got into an argument with another person that says things that made you upset or angry. Although, you don’t want to escalate the argument despite your emotions being hurt by this person. A good character is about being the bigger person and setting your ego aside in any heated situation even if the individual is wrong or right.

I believe one problem of a good character is that they don’t leave room for themselves to reflect on their own because of the obstacles in their lives that make it impossible to move on. Another problem of a good character is having a caring personality because it makes it difficult to do things you want without worrying, checking in on others, and fear of being forgotten. Overthinking makes it hard for an individual to follow through with their ideas and it would take longer for them to finish.

In conclusion, a good character should know from right to wrong and put their ego aside in any heated situation even if they are right or wrong. A good character should also know their worth and limitations without worrying about others and how others perceive them. A good character should be genuine and willing to help others of their own free will without forcing yourself to help.

Never let others change how you are because being kind and humble will get you far in life.

Crossing Path

When I think of the word “cross-path” I think of people who walk in your life unexpectedly that made an impact in your life. There are many people in my life that made my life better through their genuine kindness and interactions. When I wasn’t thinking properly or in the right mindset, my friends were always there to help me get through it and listen to everything I had to say. I didn’t know my life would change for the better by meeting so many individuals online and it felt surreal meeting them in person. Lately, I have wondered how my life would have been different if I stopped interacting with the people I met online. I questioned what would happen if I never crossed paths with them or interacted with them on a daily basis. It’s these thoughts that would linger in the back of my mind when I am alone in a quiet setting.

During my journey, I have crossed paths with so many wonderful people that formed genuine friendship and interactions. It’s these interactions that keep me going in life and sane because friendships like these are hard to find nowadays. The bond I form online is an unbreakable bond because no matter where we are in this world or how far we have gone in life, they will always be unconditionally supporting you through any decision you make especially the difficult ones. I will forever be grateful to the people I crossed paths with in life because they push me to my best and see the potential in me that no one else does.

In conclusion, I learned that no matter what happens next, the friends you make online will show you a world from a different perspective that you couldn’t possibly imagine. The friends you make online will also teach you many life skills that will be very useful to know and when that time comes, you’ll be ready. It’s refreshing to know that no matter how long it takes for you to return, you will always be loved, cherished, welcomed, and remembered.

“ Life is truly better when you cross path with people you can joke, laugh, cry and smile

Because those friends are worth keeping forever”

Weakness

Weakness? What is weakness? What does it mean to an individual or you?

My definition of weakness is being vulnerable to your emotions and incapable of accomplishing something you want but it’s okay to have these weaknesses. It allows you to become the better version of yourself and gain experiences next time.

One of my weaknesses is allowing my overthinking thoughts to become the reality of my goals and losing my motivation to pursue my dreams such as becoming a writer, staying consistent with my workout, etc. This weakness is something I have been working on a lot for a couple of weeks now because I have been thinking a lot about how am I going to become a successful writer in the future, how am I going to accomplish my goals if I am unmotivated or lazy to even try.

A second weakness I have is being too caring of a person because I would lose sleep over something that would happen to the people important to me. I know being too caring isn’t a weakness, but it’s a double-edged sword because it shows I care a lot about them and shows that I’m very reliant on their interactions. Additionally, a part of me feels lost if I don’t check up on others because it's natural for me to be check in on others. Although, I believe it’s for the best that I dial it down since I’m confident now that they are staying hydrated and eating well.

Lastly, my biggest weakness is the thought in my mind that I will be forgotten because I wondered if I made a difference in that person's life. This thought leads me to a dark place which makes me emotional and weak because I know that I’m not forgotten and all the stuff I do matters as long as I believe in myself with a positive mindset.

In conclusion, never let your weaknesses define who you are and learn to grow out of them. It may be difficult but slowly but surely progress will be worth it and make you a stronger person. I will learn to not let my weaknesses cloud my mind or thoughts and learn to convey them in a way I know with people by my side.

“Someday your weakness can become your strength”

One Life How do you want to be known/remembered for?

In life, we’re given one life to live how we please with guidance along the way. However, that guidance only helps us at a certain point in life. We’ve to make our own path and choices that we think fit and confident in. Some people would like to be remembered for their kindness and caring personality while others would like to remember for being nice to everyone or their accomplishments. It’s very hard and unpredictable how life works because anything can block us from achieving that goal. Although, there are some individuals in this world that would rather be remembered for their work with friends watching them since doing it alone doesn’t feel that good. Sometimes people in this life are known for the wrong reasons because they were portrayed that way by social media that tainted their image by giving out false information that isn’t accurate.

For me, I am known for my loyalty, kindness, caring personality but I would love to be known for my words because it’s such an extraordinary feeling when people are inspired or being able to relate through a piece of writing that I created. I want to be known by my words because it allows me to know that I’ve impacted them either small or big that makes them feel reassured or good about themselves. It’s a great feeling to be known by close family and friends the most because they will always be there for you and rooting for you. Having close family and friends throughout your journey is truly an honor. They will always be in your life thinking about you no matter where they are in this world.

In conclusion, a piece of advice I would give is don't try so hard to be known because it just adds in a lot of unnecessary stress that pushes you to do things that might end up hurting yourself physically, emotionally, and mentally. When you go through life stay humble with your actions and be purely genuine about it because you will go far and succeed if you do things for a good reason. I would also say never forget where you came from and where it all started when you start getting recognized or known for your achievements.

Mental Health

I was inspired to write this piece because many people I know are going through a rough time during the months of being in quarantine and feeling lost of not knowing what to do in life anymore which cause them to go into a depressed state or in a path of darkness that will be hard to come out from.

I believe that dealing with mental health is one of the most important issues in this world because not a lot of people will understand what others go through and blindly say stuff that won't be helpful or useful at all. Even though you as a person are trying to help them with their internal battles, it doesn't always work because they have like a wall they built that's very hard to penetrate. Some words may get through but it's not enough, but your effort isn't for nothing because they know you are there for them but they rather deal with their internal battles alone and will reach out to you if they want your guidance or assistance. One thing to learn is don’t put yourself into a situation where you want to help them because they rather go through this battle at their own pace and if you continuously try to help or intervene it will eventually take a toll on you that will leave you restless or stressed out. A second thing to learn is that if you know a friend or anyone who is struggling with their mental health, please check on them and making sure they are okay because they are very good at hiding their emotions and faking it until the very end. It affects their mindset heavily because it shifts their goals in life, interaction with other people, and work environment towards a different direction that causes them to be more aggressive, emotionally, and not being able to think clearly.

Mental health is very important for people to understand and not to joke about because there are many people battling their internal thoughts that are more negative than positive because they’ll think that they’re worthless, there’s no point in life, and nothing is going right for them. All of these thoughts are simultaneously spinning through their mind constantly and it feels like a battle that they will never win because no one understands what they are going through that will leave them in a depressed state for days, months, or even years. It takes a lot of time, healing, confidence, and trust to tell people about their internal battles because they want to tell people that are trustworthy, have the ability to listen and understand what they are trying to say without interfering.

After witnessing and learning many of my friend’s stories about their internal battles, I’m extremely grateful to know their story and what they had to go through to get to the place they are now. I’m grateful that they are continuing to keep going in life while fighting their internal thoughts. I want everyone to know that mental issues never go away because it can be easily triggered by your words and actions so please be aware of what you say to others and think before you say something or don’t say it at all. Also if a person trusts you with their story please keep it to yourself as well and respect their wishes if they don’t want anyone else to know because trust is hard to come by these days.

                                                To my friends and family

  •  You’re worth it

  • You’re precious

  • Keep going

  • Never give up

  • You’re never alone

  • You’re appreciated

But most importantly you matter in this world so don’t feel like you don’t and be proud of what you’ve accomplished in this world. I love you guys and I will always be there for you guys.

Regrets

Regret is a feeling that’s very common to have when you feel anxious about a decision you’re about to make that can either change your life for the better or worse. The outcome of your decision will only be known once you’ve finally made a choice. You often wonder to yourself if that decision was worth making, so it makes you doubtful. This sense of doubt would eventually lead you to make a decision that you might regret. When an individual makes their final decision, they often think to themselves over and over again to know if that decision was the correct one. Once the decision is made, they can move on with their lives without any regrets. In life, everyone has made many decisions that they regretted because they never wanted to take the risk of trying something new therefore would bite them later on. One reason that it’ll bite them later on in life because they would linger in the past about why they didn’t take the risk nor give it a chance so they would let that decision eat them up inside and feeling like life would be better if they made that decision.

The biggest regret anyone can have is with their own words because saying stuff you don’t mean to a close friend, family, or even someone you don’t know can be the most painful. Those spoken words can’t be taken back because the damage of those words isn’t easy to forget. Once those words are spoken, you feel a sense of guilt and regret because deep down inside you didn’t mean the words you said. It’s even harder to come out with an apology because it takes time for a person to be the bigger person to apologize for their actions and it leaves a burden when it’s unresolved. An individual not being able to apologize for their actions and leaving it unresolved can be their downfall and biggest regret because that incident will haunt them forever. It will take time for that individual to move on from that incident because it’s constantly in their minds thinking about what he/she have done better to deescalate the conflict.

In conclusion, there’s nothing wrong with having regrets along the way because life isn’t about being perfect nor making the right or wrong decision since the outcomes are endless. A person once told me that “Living with regrets is better than living in fear” which I agree with this statement because living in fear won’t allow you to move on with your life. It’s better to move on from your past and looking forward to your present and future because what’s ahead of your journey is more important than your regrets in the past. The regrets in the past teach you what to do when you’re in that situation again because learning through your past experiences is important in life.

“Live your life in your own way, there's going to be many faults along the way but hey that's what makes life so much more interesting"
